Assigning pin numbers to multiple pins

$

Hi there,

I am new to DxDesigner. I am using symbol editor to create an 80 pin connector. I used "Add a pin Array" command and was able to place the pins on the symbol. But the pin numbers field in the Properties Window is empty. It takes too long to enter the pin numbers manually one by one.

I am sure there will be a way to assign pin numbers using a faster method. I cannot copy/paste the pin numbers using an excel spreadsheet. Please have a look at the attached screenshot and help me out.

Regards,

i use 3DEM via simulation hyperlynx tool to create model and see tdr response.

so you can see it differential and commont mode.

other properties like you said, probably ( i guess) you can take sparam to frequency sweep setup and obtaining resonance frequency find capacitance

Use the Add Properties command to add the pin numbers to the pins in the symbol view. If you're not sure how to use the command look it up in the on-line help, though it should be reasonably easy to work out.

Thanks for the info.

I hope that more people, who are using VX.1.1 on Windows 10, will share their findings.

coordinate 0,0

I have several layouts by a few different people and it seems like everyone picks a different point to make the 0,0 coordinate on a board.

I always assumed the lower left corner would be it but apparently some people like to make the lower left standoff hole 0,0.

Is there an industry standard?

If it is not the lower left corner, why not?

ODA starter library associated symbol issue in version VX.1.1

I encountered issue with diode symbols in ODA starter library. When I tried to create new part (zener diode) I used Part Editor, assign a PCB Decal, Gate (DIODE-ZENER) and set up pins as requested and check the part. According to Part Editor it has no errors or warnings.

CreateZener.png

But when I click OK, create a part it has no Associated Symbols. When I add normal diode symbol to Gates it shows it in the xDM Library Tools but no other diode symbol (as shotky or any TVS diode) included in the ODA libraries is associated with the part. Even when I add almost all symbols from Diode library as alternative symbols only normal diode symbol is displayed in xDM Library Tools as Associated Symbols.

CentralZener.png

And furthermore if I open any existing diode with Associated symbol of zener, schotky or any other than normal diode in Part Editor and click OK, xDM Library Tools shows no Associated Symbols although it is associated in Part Editor. I am able to create for example resistor part without any problems.

Do you have any idea what can cause this issue? Where am I making mistake in the process?

Thank you for any advice.

Radek

P.S. Library can be fixed in PADS version VX.1, where associating symbols works correctly.

It is a personal preference.  PADS has the long standing 'bug' of not supporting negative coordinates in the CAM output, so if you don't use the lower left corner you'll need to use offset in the CAM output.  I got in the habit long ago of putting the lower left corner at 1000, 1000 so i could have dimensions on teh left/lower side without requiring an offset (although I typically use offset anyway for consistency between the CAM files).  .

Occasionally a PCBA will need a common reference with another PCBA or mechanical fixture so it makes sense to put the origin at that point.  it varies by design and designer

The hatch grid is set to 1, but hatch should have no effect on this pad.

The two rectangles are components with a single pad decal. The footprint should always show up as solid and not hatched sine a part will be soldered on top.

There are a couple things you should check:

- Make sure the key is plugged directly into the main USB hub on the back of the computer.

- Verify that the power management setting are not turning of power to the USB ports.

Thanks.

What do you mean “directly into the main USB hub”? I have four USB connectors.

It’s not a USB power issue because most of the time it happens it immediately clears and recovers.

I guess you’re telling me that this is not a normal (known) problem. I’ll pay attention when it happens and see if I can find any more clues.

Thanks

DxD Tools/Verify drc-002 rule "values" format

I'm trying to follow the 7.9.4 tutorial, but I don't understand the string of acceptable values in the drc-002 rules settings

It had me change the "Values" string

from

^(~?[a-zA-Z_0-9+-.]+)$

to

^([a-zA-Z_0-9+-.~$]*)$

so that the characters "~" and "$" are acceptable in net names

What is the significance of removing the "?"

What is the significance of changing the "+" to "*"

Did the position of "~" in the string make a difference?

I tried to click "HELP" from the Verify/Tools dialog, but it doesn't explain the syntax

thanks,

Jack (aka "the new guy")

Are they copper shapes 'associated' with the pads?

What is visible through the hatch in your first picture?

Hi Rizwan,

You can also try creating the symbol from a text file. Within Symbol Editor, you can go to File > Generate Symbol from Pins and select the appropriate file. I have made an Excel template (attached) for simplifying this process - enter in the symbol data and save the worksheet in .CSV format, then import this into Symbol Editor. This makes it easy to read a datasheet and generate the necessary pins quickly - later you can fine-tune the symbol's appearance.

Autorouter, how do i specify it to route on only top and bottom of board in a certain area of the board

Hi,

I inherited a Expedition design.  I would like to grow the board, which I have done and add my portion of the design which together with the parts that were on the board before I took it over would comprise the whole board.  I would like to lock down the components and traces that I inherited.  I have already place all of my components that were not on the original design.  Now I would like to start routing my portion of the board.  I would only like to route on the top and the bottom layers.  I have placed planes in the inner layers under my portion of the board, and I don't want traces to be routed on those inner layers.  The inherited portion of the board has traces routed on those inner layers.  I would like to route by hand the critical traces on my portion of the board and then use the autorouter to route the rest of the traces on my portion of the board.  Mind you that the inner layers are not defined as planes, I drew planar areas on the inner layers for my "ground plane" for instance.  I attached a bitmap file showing the board.

My question is:

How do I specify that the autorouter only route on the top and bottom layer given the information described above.

They are NOT copper shapes, the rectangles are the pads.

1) Make a part with a single rectangular pad footprint

2) Add two of these parts to the design (net list import)

Once again, these are not copper pours, copper areas. It is just like a pad for a surface mount resistor, only in this case the part has one pad and it is large.

What you see under the hatch are "via-in-pad" and routing traces.

Boris.

Re: DxD Tools/Verify drc-002 rule "values" format

The second method is a little cleaner and allows partial negation of netnames in addition to the $.

===================================

^(~?[a-zA-Z_0-9+-.]+)$

^ is the begininig, $ is the end

() is a capturing group

~? is zero or one ~ at the start of the matching string

[a-zA-Z_0-9+-.] is the list of legal characters

+ is one or more of the characters of the legal character list

=================================================

^([a-zA-Z_0-9+-.~$]*)$

^ is the begininig, the final $ is the end

() is a capturing group

[a-zA-Z_0-9+-.~$] is the list of legal characters

* is zero or more of the characters in the legal character list

=====================================

  1. What is the significance of removing the "?"  -- this allows for the partial negation of netnames -- net~name~fred would have the inversion bar only over name.
  2. What is the significance of changing the "+" to "*" -- one vs. zero
  3. Did the position of "~" in the string make a difference? -- see the first answer...

Thank You!

For the record, I implied that the HELP documentation didn't explain enough,

and then I stumbled into the "Regular Expression Syntax" area (missed it the first time)

If I understand correctly,

the "?" in the first string is just there to allow the "~" negate character at the beginning of the string?

also, just for my own curiosity,

How does it know that the last "-" in the list of legal characters is not a "range" symbol? (like the other two "-")

(I'm new to regular expressions)

and finally (sorry to be a burden)

Why would the DEFAULT string NOT put the "~" in the list of legal characters?

(If I click the "Defaults" button in Rules,it changes it back to a less useful rule?)

thanks again for taking the time to respond,

Jack
