Cannot complete a trace with plane flooded

$

Trying to draw a trace from one pin to another, same net, but it will not complete.  It resists attaching, giving "sketch must end near end of guide" in the output window.  Ctrl+click and selecting complete from the right-click drop-down menu do not work.  These two pins are encompassed in a net plane.  When the plane has been flooded, thermals show up, but a trace won't route.  When, the plane has not been flooded, it routes just fine.  What's going on here?

Re: Licensing Error - ModelSim

Hi,

We found the dongle. Still got errors during install, but a little different.  When a sim is opened (with green light on dongle) we get the following error:

# Reading C:/modeltech_pe_10.0d/tcl/vsim/pref.tcl

# reading modelsim.ini

# Loading project camlink_fg1_msim_proj

#

vsim work.fg1_tb2

# vsim work.fg1_tb2

# ** Error: Failure to obtain a VHDL simulation license. Unable to checkout msimpevsim license feature.

# Error loading design

I have attached details that are provided during license installation. Can the cause be pinpointed?

Thanks

Dean,

Many of the errors you saw (hostid of this system does not match...) are likely because your license file is combined and has the licenses for all the dongles you mentioned in your original post. They don't really hurt anything, but they make troubleshooting a bit messy.

What you need to do is look at the hardware key (dongle) you have plugged into your system and note the '9-xxxxxx' number that is stamped on it. Then separate the licenses in your file that match this number and put them in their own license file and point your license file variable at the new file.

The INCREMENT lines have 2 date codes on them: One is the expiration date, which is dd-mm-year. The other is called the 'exact access date', and it looks like year-mm. For the license to work it a) cannot be expired, and b) must have an exact access date that meets the minimum criteria for the version of software you are using. The exact access date requirements are included in the release documentation for each release.

Best regards,

Ken Foster

Import Altium files to DxDesigner?

$

Hello,

Is there a tutorial on how to import files from Altium Designer to DxDesigner?

I am currently trying to import a project with multiple schematics. But, the Symbols and Schematic translator only allows me to add one file.

Even after I continue with this process, the translator gives me the error:

Failed to open the log file.

Does anyone know what this specific error means or why I can't translate more schematic files at the same time?

Are there multiple pins on the net?  It may be attempting to complete the route to a different pin then the one that you think is obvious.

You might try routing 95% of the way from pin #1 to pin #2, and then routing from pin #2 to finish the net.

That is odd though.  I just routed across a poured plane and it works just fine.

I can't place a partial route either.

I did notice that the route would place if I zoomed way out to tack it to the second pin.  A "target" symbol that appears at the crosshairs when the software feels you are centered over a valid pin, but sometimes it doesn't appear when you are zoomed in too closely and snapped to a grid.  When zoomed way out, I guess the target (the center of the pin) grows so that the trace doesn't actually have to be completely centered to find home.

... I explained that terribly.  Hopefully, you followed what I was saying.

Hi Andrey. Did you ever get an answer to your question? We have a new PADS community dedicated to scripting so I'm moving your question there in case someone can help you.

I see.

By any chance, is there another method to export Eagle files to DxDesigner without a new installation? I am kind of limited on resources and have to use the Mentor Graphics Dx/Exp EE7.9.3 software.

Creo 2 - Mentor graphics - vesys interface

Hi All , I ma new to MG. I have been working for years on CREO 2, which is the CAD tool that we use. I have installed all plugins for CApital and they all work. I seem to have a problem linking the cables to follow the network I created in CREO. The wires which I have imported from VEsys are visible in creo . However it fails when I say follow network. I have linked the wires to the co-ordinate system on the connector. Any ideas?

Thanks

Sub Main

For Each f In ActiveDocument.Fields

  If f.Name = "Drawn" Then

  Debug.Print f.Value

  End If

Next f

End Sub

The Browse Object button is often a difficult place to find unknown commands, it's really there for accessing commands you already know, and it isn't a complete list.  Try the Automation Help documents, they are organized pretty well for finding properties and methods when you aren't sure exactly what you need.

Is the PADS ES suite the same as PADS Standard Plus?

What are the difference between the PADS ES suite and the PADS Standard Plus suite? Looks like there is some additional functionality gained but also some is lost. (DxDPF).

Why are paying customers not directly informed with pricing and proposals to convert existing Bundles or Suites to new Suites (with the reportedly lower costs) ?  This should correspondingly lower support costs as well, right ?

Re: How to assign power supply nets to planes ?

Hi supan,

I think you may safely ignore that section - the supply nets seem to assign to the plane automatically based on your Xpedition plane assignments. If you use Viewing Filter (RMB > Show Viewing Filter) and hide everything except that supply net, you should see the traces, vias, and pins all tied to that plane. Hovering your mouse over the plane shape, you'll see in the bottom-left it should have the correct net name assigned.

i cleaned up the license file by removing everything except the lines that refer to model sim stuff. After that I received the attached error. I then deleted everything above line 128 and the app is working now. Thanks

I assume you have gone through this document Pro/ENGINEER, Creo Elements, Creo Parametric modeling prerequisites for use with Capital .

Take a look at the last four bullets, especially the fourth-last.  Have you made sure that the ENTRY_PORT property for the VeSys connectors correspond to the csys in the Creo connector.prt that you want to designate as the entry port?  If all this is set up accurately, then when you designate the connectors in Creo to the incoming nwf data, the csys will be set as an entry port (TRUE in the Modify Parameters dialog). I suspect you have done all this and so have been able to terminate the network on such csys'.

The other problem is that the network is possibly discontinuous somewhere and so the autorouting fails. You'll need to check that out.

If you've done all these and it hasn't worked, please send me the nwf and the Creo model and I'll take a look. vincent_pinto@mentor.com

SI simulation differs with real measurement a lot

Hi Sir,

I am a beginner of Hyperlynx, try to do SI simulation as a reference for my next version of PCB design.

On my current PCB, there are 64 LVDS interfaces, all running at maximum 960Mbps, from eight ADC (ADI AD9279) to a FPGA (Xilinx Virtex-6).

Below is real measurement of one of the LVDS interface ( at 250Mbps, at FPGA side ) :

250Mbps.png

And below is SI simulation result from Hyperlynx,

as you can see, simulation result is totally different from the real measurement.

s1.png

stimulus setting as below :

s2.png

simulation trace :

board.png

On the other hand, we had previously assign a 3rd party company to perform SI simulation on these LVDS traces, below are two of the results :

at 480Mbps :

si-480Mbps.png

at 960Mbps :

si-960Mbps.png

They use exactly the same IBIS models of mine in Hyperlynx(also attached in this post), so I do think my problem is related to parameter setting in Hyperlynx (?).

Any comment is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Fatal Errors in HL 9.2

Hi all,

I am experiencing following errors while working with HL 9.2 (64-bit and 32-bit). This happens whenever I tried to select a differential pair or during the model assignment.

Could this be a bug associated with HL 9.2? I am using it with Windows 8.1.

Hi,

point to dsn. Under "Tools" you will find "Create Netlist..." and choose "orIntergra.dll" formatter.
