Re: Importing DXF

Hi Bruce,

I'm using Draftsight as well (latest version), we are currently using PADS 9.41 and I haven't had any issues importing text from a dxf.  I have had to change the text to use a line width to gerber as it will come in at a line width of 0.  Another thing I've done if I don't want to use the default PADS font is to explode the text in Draftsight first so that it will come in as a drawn element instead of text, to do this just select the text and type explodetext and hit enter.  Hope this helps.

Bruce,

Which method are you using to import the DXF?

  • File > Import > DXF

or

  • Import DXF File icon from Drafting Toolbar

The Import DXF File icon on the Drafting toolbar supports import of shapes to 2D line or copper, but does not bring in Text.  The File > Import > DXF should be able to bring in the text though.

Hi John,

Generally, the VeSys 2.0 database hosted on a server - with all the clients able to connect.   The VeSys 2.0 database supports concurrency for users, allowing many users to access the same database (work in the same projects, sharing the same library parts).  The only time XML is needed is when you upgrade between major versions (for example VeSys 2.0 v2014.1 to 2015.1), however there is a utility to perform the migration so you would not need to output XML files.

Typical usage of VeSys 2.0 does not require, even with large teams, export/output of XML when making modifications.

Are you evaluating VeSys 2.0, would you be willing to talk?  If so then please contact your sales representative and ask for assistance,

Kind Regards,

Nuri

I been trying to use the Drafting Toll icon because I can place it on an existing layout.

File > Import open doesn't want to let me do that.  It will import the dxf, text and all, but it won't let me open a layout and then import the dxf and place it on the layout.

Travis- How do you explode the text?  I tried that and it said it could not explode that entity.

Bruce,

Once you import the DXF into a new layout select everything and you can copy and paste it into the layout that you want it in.

If the text is a dimension you need to explode the dimension first.  Once you are able select just the text you should be able to type in 'explodetext' and see it change.

Ok, I was using Modfy > Explode.  Typing 'explodetext' in the command line works and I was able to import the text.

Copy and paste from another Layout shell will work as well, but I setting this up for multiple users and I want to make it as hassle free as I can.

One more question.  Does the file type matter when you save the dxf, ie, R12, R13, R14, R2002-2002, etc?

Thanks

I have the best luck with R12.  Others work sometimes but if it's giving me trouble usually re-saving to R12 fixes it.

File/Import/DXF will work, but you have to do it with the design already open. You need to select the Add radio button after selecting the DXF file on the options screen.

Part alignment options in xPCB

Hi,

xDx Designer has  very good alignment options. But I couldn't find other than align left, right ,top and bottom in xPCB. These 4 options are not enough to correctly place a grid of parts which are at different angles.

So are there any other techniques to align parts  in xPCB like in xDx Designer?

Thank you

Hi Nuri,

So " the VeSys 2.0 database hosted on a server"

I can't find any settings to change where the various VeSys files are stored.  The Install has placed everything on the C drive.

Most programs have a number of settings to control where various items are stored etc. but Vesys does not appear to have any options.

There are a few XML settings files filled with incomprehensible stuff, but I can't find any reference to file locations.

Not only do other users need to be able see the design and library data, but it all needs to be stored in the company PLM system. As far as I can tell, this can only be achieved by exporting XML.

From your answer, it appears there is no way to auto output the design and libraries into a secure location. It's a manual operation the engineer needs to remember to do.

My company has recently purchased VeSys  2.0 and I'm trying to figure out how to use it from the terrible documentation and video demo's which keep crashing. It's a shame there's no genuine tutorial.

Hello,

We use dxdesigner and DMS database for schematic capture. We want to create variants. Removing component is easy. However, replacing component needs Library Data source configuration files(*.dbc). At Setting>Library Query Setup, I want to create and establish library connection with DMS database. I am not able to so. Can anyone help?
