Hi All,

I'm to stupid to find out, how to open a VX1.1 PCB in Read Only Mode to copy out some stuff. PCBBrowser is only for viewing....

Background is: I have only one license and when open a 2nd PCB a 2nd license is needed .... (on same PC)

Re: Change of licensing in PADS Professional during work

Hi Radek,

It appears that the only license you can acquire / release while running PADS Professional is the "xPCB Design for Test" license.  That license is controlled under the Setup > Licensed Modules menu.

We need some more information to determine what might be happening. What platform, Windows or Linux? When you say the text window on the bottom opens what do you mean? Is there any transcript in the output window? Does an icon appear in the Task bar?

I am working in windows. The text window that outputs information from the packager opens, but the packager window itself does not. No text appears. No icon appears

What if you select Packager from the tool bar button, is it the same behaviour? And nothing in the Windows task bar?

Hi,

MG588427:

In X-ENTP VX.1 and later, once a design is open in xDX Designer or Xpedition PCB, it is possible to open a second design in "reference" mode without taking a second license. Reference mode opens the design object read-only. For example:

  • File > Open - opens the design in edit mode.
  • File > Open Reference - opens the design in read-only mode; does not consume a second license.

PADs ascii output manipulation

Hi all,

I have a customer who wants to use the .asc file from PADs to program his pick and place machines.  No trouble, I provide this to my other CM's all the time.

The difference is that he wants to add to the ascii file a specific (his own) part number to the file as well as the manufacturer's part number.

So I would need to take the ascii file and be able to manipulate it to add in two columns from an excel spreadsheet.  (the BOM with the two numbers.)  The upside is that the two fields I'd like to add external information to are part of the file already - the PartName and the Description field.

I don't see where I can access the files that produce the ascii file to be able to add in these two things.  I've done some looking in the forums here and don't see anything that looks relevant to this.

I'm using Orcad for the schematic capture tool and PADs for the layout tool.

Any help and pointing in the right direction would be really appreciated.

Thanks,Wayne.

Pads - can't change the ground symbol - even though library is included.

I have a design that used triangle symbol for ground. I want to change this to the conventional 3-line version of ground (I am going to copy this schematic into another schematic).

However, using CTRL-SPACE to add a ground symbol, then using CTRL_TAB to cycle through the different symbols, does not work. CTRL_SPACE gives me only the triangle, and CTRL_TAB doesn't change it.

It works fine in the other schematic, the one that I want to merge with this older one. It seems that it's something particular to this older file.

I have verified that the $GND_SYMS ground symbol "component" is in the librarary (common), and it does include the correct GND symbol.

Why can't I get the GND symbol using CTRL-TAB?

Thanks

Thank,  But this won't be able to gate swap between the powered and un-powered gates,If you can gate swap between the powered and un-powered gatesis perfect。

That is correct, you cannot swap gates it is unsupported in the PDB. The only way to address this is to make the power pins implicit in the PDB and then use Supply Rename to override those values if necessary.

I asume that is still is the same as in VX.1

Select the refdes and delete it.  Make sure that on the "Editor Control-->Place-->General Options" window both "Allow Cell Text Edits" and

"Allow Cell Graphics Edits" are both checked to allow modifications.

Distribute Parts not working in Vx1.1

When you are in the new Component Explorer and select some Components and then press the RMB you see the Distribute function (See Printscreen 1).

Now for me this Distribute function is gray’d out no matter what I do. The Problem has to do with the Package Group Property (See Printscreen 2). If the property is set to General
the Distribute function is not available…

Set the property to something else will solve this issue. Alternatively you can use the pr -dist * Keyin this is still working fine.

Just wanna share this, maybe helpful for some of you

You can either use a separate power symbol or you can make the power pins available on all gates.  Now you can swap the gates.

If you have the power pins on all gates, theoretically, you can connect one ground pin to the ground and the other ground pin to the power. I have no idea if DxDesigner can catch such a situation.

This is how it is implemented in the Optimum Starter Library.

Have you tried <Tools><Update from Library> and checked the box for 'Ground Symbols'?  Logic keeps a local copy of $GND_SYMS within the schematic file so it may not match the one in the library.

Are you sure you don't have '$GND_SYMS' defined in multiple libraries?  If not then PADS Logic will use the first one it finds.

revision (or version) control

Hello everyone,

has anyone experience regarding revision control systems like TFS (Team Foundation Server), GIT or similar tools in combination with DxDesigner and PADS?

Thank you in advance for any answer,

kind regards,

Georg

Don't bother with manipulating ASCII files for this.  In the Tools menu, Basic Scripts>Basic Scripts, launch the PADS Layout Script Wizard, and create a custom report.  Either add an attribute to your parts in PADS and add the attribute to your report,  or edit the resulting spreadsheet.
