Hi,
try to close all schematic tabs and try again.
I have this problem sometimes, when i open the DxDesigner out of PADS over Tools-> DxDesigner->Connect.
Closing all the schematic sheets solves it most of the time.

Hi,
I tried the PADS 3D function with PADS VX.2.
I have a part with an attribute: "Part Number" and it value is on the silkscreen layer.
Now the PADS 3D view doesn't show this attribute value.
If I change it to Ref.Des it will show the value.
Is there a way to add "custom" attributes for the PADS 3D view?
Hi everyone,
We recently purchase Flotherm XT to start simulations of our boards. Very complex boards, with complex enclosures, heat sinks etc.
When we first tried a Flotherm demo, it took us 3 days for it to solve one of our boards on a 16core CPU overclocked (dont remember the Ghz) and 64gb of Ram.
We are now searching for a better PC, but i would like to now if things will be faster with a Tesla or Quadro GPU or Intel Xeon Phi...as i recall from older versions,we could only use CPU threads not GPU.
Please make suggestion of a good PC (motherboard, CPU, GPU, RAM etc) for fastest simulation in complex environments?
Thanks for your help.
Carlos
Hello Mark,
There are two areas for startup scripts in the Setup-->Run on Startup GUI, one for Forms ( .efm) and one for Scripts (.vbs).
You can use Visual Basic Scripts to run on DxDesigner Statup, but i think .bat or .exe is no supported format. The Tool expects a vbs script but can't execute e.g. a EXE directly.
Thanks,
Torsten
Hello All
I am working on a old drawing, which needs the wire spec changing. However I am unable to as the option to add the wire manually or to search for one the library has been greyed out (see attachment). I have tried on other old drawings and I am able to update the wire, it is just this once cause the trouble.

Hi All,
How does everyone use Net Rules in the Batch Analysis Spreadsheet? Has everyone generated their own set of rules across multiple parameters, or are there templates available? I understand that HyperLynx will search IBIS models for some of the rule information, but I can't say that I have every seen an IBIS model with ringback and overshoot properties. I haven't seen any of that information in a datasheet either, which makes these rule assignments complete guesswork. So what 'rules-of-thumb' do the sim-savvy use for specific IO technology or specific protocols?
It is a wish of mine and others. Vote for idea here:
Implement migration of customized menus, toolbar and Macros Command Files list. - D15325
The answer to your question is fairly complex.
The fundamental idea in play with creating BOMs from the Xpedition flow is that there is not a very good way to include mechanical parts in a PCB database. Unless a component has logical pins with through or surface pads, it becomes difficult to create, add, and manage them in the PCB database. Additionally, the Variant Manager is not well suited to take care of them.
We have the further problem that our ERP system, SAP, requires a very customized BOM file format, so the part list generation tools in both Xpedition and DxDesigner are not capable of creating the files in this format.
Thus we have solved the problem by doing the following:
- We create schematic symbols for mechanical parts. We have a table in our DxDatabook database for them. Each part has a symbol with no logical pins, so there is no need for a corresponding cell and packaging. The Forward to PCB attribute in the symbol definition is set to False. The symbols have properties for Part Number, Quantity, Ref Designator, and Schematic Value. Ref Designator becomes Item Number on the BOM. The policy is that every bit of hardware that goes on the PCB Assembly gets included in the schematic. In this way, the schematic is in 100% control of the design and everything included in it, and the schematic is always in sync with the BOM.
- We have an automation application that creates the BOM files from within the schematic. This application was written from scratch to exactly suit our needs of including the mechanical parts, not including things like mounting holes and e-points, accommodating the complete functionality of the Variant Manager, and creating the BOM files as they are needed for use with SAP. Additionally we separate all of the SMT parts in their own BOM so that our assembly machines and processes don't have to try to separate them out later on.
There is no quick and easy way to get an accurate BOM from DxDesigner or Expedition that does everything you want, and gives you the format you want.
You best bet is with a script. Take a look at the script that Sandi Bottanu wrote: Expedition PCB: Bill Of Materials - Just another BOM script
Vamsi - we have an Excel interface (output and input) to Capital Library that we've been using with some customers. I will ask our local team to contact you to see if we can use this to solve your problem.
It is not possible to read the project properties from getSeverity method. If the DRC implements IXApplicationContextListener interface, then you will get access to the application context. But, the current project is NOT available through application context when the DRCs are shown either in Project Preferences or DRC List for execution.
If the properties are already created on the project, then this problem could be worked around. The Custom DRC could implement IXProjectChangeListener interface. In the projectChanged method, the project can be retrieved from the application context and read the property value and store the severity value in a variable which can be returned by the getSeverity method. You should not store IXProject object itself in the DRC because that object could become expired by the time it is used at a later point.
If the property values are changed, then it requires the project to be re-opened or switch to a different project to get the changed values into effect.
Thanks for the input Kiran. I've tried the suggested way of using the IXProjectChangeListener to store off the Project properties and it works as expected.
Let us know what you find. I have 2 old profiles that I would love to merge with my existing one
TO the Mentor crew,
We have common circuits defined in the library that are hierarchical blocks. In 2007 netlist flow, we can place the circuits, connect them, annotate them, and the operation of these circuits behaves as expected. Now when we try to use these in 9.x series releases, netlisting results are very poor. Netlister is disconnecting/isolating nets that it shouldn't. It appears that documentation does not address this situation. So to the Mentor crew, what is the process for using these?
You can find some information on SupportNet https://supportnet.mentor.com/docs/201507074/docs/pdfdocs/net2int_user.pdf
Jeff - thanks for your patience. I reviewed this recently with Jive support and think I have a solution. I want to complete some testing on it tomorrow, and will post back here with results.
I want to load a Special Color Scheme in an Automation script (vbs), before the User is exporting to a Pdf.
questions:
1) how to catch if the User clicks Export/Pdf? - is there a CommandListener like in the Pcb?
2) else - how to ExecuteCommand "File->Export->Pdf"? (in Pcb it works with ExecuteCommand("File->...") - but not in Designer, or?
3) how to load a uniformly Company Color Scheme (.dxc) in a script?
In the help I found nothing.
Best Regards,
Juergen
