Re: OFFSHEET SYMBOL: DEFAULT NAME WHEN ADDED

The answer is still the same, whether it is an annotate or pin, you can control the location of the 'name' in VX.2. bi_flat.1 was just shown as an example of how this works in VX.2 as we've already updated the symbols we deliver in the base libraries in VX.2

Using Analysis Control for Power Integrety

I am runnig a power integrety analysis (Hyperlynx 9.4) from the Analysis Control window inside Expedition.   It shows a problem at the Power Module.  So far so Good.

In Expedition I made changes to improve the situation at the Power Module.

      Old Situation                                                             New situation

HL1.jpgHL2.jpg

Now I run the Power Integrity simulation again, but it keeps using the old design data instead of the updated plane.  Terminating the client and starting it again does not help.

(You can see this when you open the Powerscope. It keeps showing the old info)

Pass The REFDES Value From DxDataBook

Hi, is it possbile to pass the REFDES value to a component in the schematic from the databook? I created different symbol for my RESISTORS table (resistor.1, jmp_resistor.1, etc,..) leaving the REFDES property value empty

In the databook i made a field named REFDES. Every component on the table have different REFDES value included "?" character (e.g: R?, JR?, etc..)

The PCB interface give me some error:

pcb: Note 6062: sym RESISTORS:JMP_RESISTOR: REFDES=: Changing property value to U?

pcb: Note 6062: sym RESISTORS:RESISTOR: REFDES=: Changing property value to U?

how can i edit the pcb config file to set custom refdes to the symbols?

Re: PADS 9.5 re-install

Hello,

General suggestions when you get this type of error are:

1) You might need to re-install the Microsoft libraries manually.  In the ...\9.5PADS\win32 folder, try installing any vcr... executables.

2) Run the configurator with the -clean switch, then check if you still have any SDD_HOME / MGC_HOME variables set.  If so remove them before running the configurator again.

3) If you have the SDD_USELOCAL_ENV variable set, unset it, and re-run the configurator.

4) Uninstall PADS completely and re-install after a reboot.

If none of these work, you will need to raise a service request via Supportnet.

David

Re: Bridge Error Program Error

After many tries and a lot of debugging I finally managed to find the reason why this error appears!

The problem was the IXAttributeSetter Object

IXAttributeSetter that stored the changes to be applied when the IXAction.execute() method completes. It will return null if you are not allowed to change this object. You should check for a null return value.

Seems like it is not possible to change objects on the design when working with an Bridge Processor Plugin....

Anyway, the error message is not very helpful.

Mentor should change it

Massage "Cannot copy fromto..." - What does that mean?

I get the following errors if I invoke a schematic:

I have already checked the netline-order and the definition of pins (source, load, termination) but I could not find any wrong configuration.

Have anybody an idea what can cause these massages? I have no idea

Many Thanks.

Did Mentor Fix the "Remove unused pads" for High-Speed Signals?

$

When routing high-speed signals via pads in the board stack-up create parasitic capacitance. Much of the literature recommends removing unused pads except where necessary for routing.

I thought I remembered removing unused pads through the "options", but then having copper (plane or pour) flood based on the copper-to-drill rule. This then caused via pads on some layers to create capacitive coupling that was worse than leaving the pads in play.

Further, there were issues where the accuracy (or inaccuracy) of the drill would be fine if the pad was there. Basically the drill hole placement could "float" within the bounds of the via pad, but that was okay. What was NOT okay was if you removed via pads, then the copper-to-drill would allow the copper to flood closer to the drill such that sometime the drill would go through the copper plane and short out (or at least the "good" board house flagged this as a violation).

I see the "help" on the "Remove unused pads" option says the tool replaces unused pads with anti-pads. Is this how Mentor fixed this issue sometime between PADS 9.5 and PADS VX.1.2?

Routing differential pairs traces

I need to route some differential pair traces, using a width of 12.5 thou seperated by 8 thou.

I have set the width and spacing in the "Differential Pair" settings in the "Design Rules" for the pair of nets.

How do you then go about routing these traces, can it only be done using PADS Router ?

I dont want to route them using PADS Router.

I would like to manually route the differential pair of traces, but I want the trace width and spacing to be done automatically.

Is there any way of doing this ?

Interfacing a Custom Interface PCB with test fixture with double-sided nails

$

Hello All,

We are using PADS Layout 9.5 to design a custom interface PCB to interface with a UUT using a test fixture with double-sided nails. This means that the bed of nails will touch test points located on the bottom of the UUT on the top of the nail while also touching a test point located on the top of the interface board with the bottom of the nail. In other words, the UUT and Interface PCB make a sandwich with the nails in the middle.

Our biggest challenge with this is that we need to layout the custom interface PCB so that the test points on the PCB matches exact coordinate locations of the test points on the UUT. We would prefer to have an automated way of doing this to not only save time, but also greatly reduce chance for human error (since we have 150 or so test points). The fixture house gave us a 1:1 DXF file that we can bring into PADS which has all of the test points present as simple 2D circles. The manual ways to do this would be to create test point components in the design and manually overlay the test point component onto the DXF test point circle, or manually type in coordinates for each test point. Any ideas for how to automate this, either with ASCII file or DXF manipulation or something else, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Gabe

PADS Layout need username and pssword?

I have a couple of users who for some reason is now required to enter username and password when starting PADS Layout.

PADS Logic and PADS Router does not require this.

It reacts in the same way as if it was invoked wih "Run as Administrator". But it is not.

Anyone else experienced this?

Also I don't have any specific new software I can see that both users have installed recently.

ne of the users uninstalled PADS and reinstalled it again - same result.

It is quite weird.

All the other users do not have this problem (yet - anyway).

Klaus

No able to import dxf into PADS Layout to create board outline

Hi,

I try to import dxf into pads layout 9.5 to use it as board outline but I'm not able.

I use import dxf under drafting toolbard but when I change the line from 2D to board outline appair "SELF-INTERSECTIONG  POLYGON" and don't finish ok.

Also i like understant the dxf format that I can use to import dxf into pads.

In attachment the dxf original file.

How do I create an associated net so I can create a matched length group for tuning?

$

I have a design where a bus of signals pass through a isolator and SSR to a connector. We want to eliminate any skew not associated with the isolator.

Currently we set up each section (connector-to-buffer | buffer-to-SSR | SSR-to-connector) of pin-pairs as a matched length pin pair group. How do I get PADS to recognize that the electrical net/signal is the continuum from one connector to the other?

How to relative move a selection?

$

Hello,

how can I do a relative move of selected components?

Bachground:

I've a group of connectors that I've placed at given coordinates.

But the origin of the PCB decals are set to pin 1 instead of the middle of the component.

Now I've to move these connectors by a given amount (for example 2,54 mm).

And I want to do this movement with multiple connectors at once.

Any suggestions?

Best regards,

Florian

How do I set the plane/pour line width and hatch based on minimum trace/space constraints?

$

I have a minimum trace/space requirement of 0.15mm. If I set the line width to 0.15 and that hatch spacing to 0.015, I get a contiguous flood, but the shape doesn't fill in within the default constraints (too much void). However, if I set the line width/hatch spacing to 0.010 and 0.001, it over-fills the space leaving slivers of less than 0.15.

Is there a rule of thumb, or am I left to guess/check?

Exporting PADS 9.5 Files to 9.0

How do you export Mentor Graphics Designer Layout files to legacy PADS 9.0?

Layout can create these files: .pcb, . dnf, and .csv. PADS needs .ascii.
