How to list aggressors in batch crosstalk sim?

I see the aggressor listed in the quick analysis report file, but not in the detailed analysis spreadsheet. How can I do a detailed analysis and get the agressors listed, so that I can track them down and even better, sort by strength so I can deal with the significant ones?

What exactly does the demonstration mode in PADS Layout limit? (PADS 9.5)

Hi,

Sometimes I'm unlucky and none of the floating licenses are available while I need to open PADS Layout. The software tells me that it will start in demonstration mode instead. What exactly does that mean? Can I plug a USB dongle in while in demonstration mode?

I was unable to find anything in the help files when I search for "demonstration mode" - there's mostly only warnings that the software may open in said mode. I could not find any discussions of exactly what the limitations are either. I am mainly interested in the following scenarios:

a) I open Layout from within Logic to quickly change a decal or prepare a board outline.

b) I open Layout from within Logic to send the net list and push an eco to pcb due to minor changes in the schematics.

I suppose demonstration mode means I cannot use any of the following functions:

  • cannot save, or save as
  • cannot export
  • cannot create a PDF
  • no CAM functions
  • cannot EDIT or NEW in the library (however, right-click an object and 'Save to Library' seems to work)

Sometimes I can reserve time for a USB dongle but forgot that I started the software in demonstration mode. Usually I just exit and restart the software after I attach the dongle, but what happens if the dongle is removed while PADS Layout is running (i.e. licensed)?

1. Will it switch to demonstration mode?

2. If the dongle is plugged back in, will I be able to save my work?

3. Specifically, if I started in demonstration mode and attach the dongle at a later point, will it resume in licensed mode?

Note that I think to know that the recommended procedure is to close any software that uses the licenses before attaching a dongle. However, sometimes certain impatient individuals ignore that.

Apologies if this information can be found in the documentation. I was not able to find anything relevant after a reasonable amount of time spent searching.

Sincerely,

Chris

Copy Values from CES Class To Class Rules in VX

Hi all,

in the Past (7.9.4) it was possible to copy all Values included NetClassNames from CES Class-To-Class Clearances with CTRL-C. But in VX 1.1 it seems to not work anymore ?

I need this to check in Excel against definition.

Hello,

The Customer Part Number is an attribute, so you can add it to your style set under the decorations for an object. For example, for a connector it would look like this...

Is that what you were asking?

See this post  Yahoo! Groups from April.  A lot of the more experienced users are still on that forum.

Integrator-to-XC Sync Issue

$

Good morning,

I’m running into an issue when I sync wire information from
an Integrator plane to a harness in XC where some wires “lose” one connection
point.  So then, after running design rule checks I receive numerous
“unconnected wire” errors.

This happened last night, so I went back into Integrator
just to double check the wires and they contain both end points on the
plane.

Now, here’s the deal (and maybe the culprit, somehow)…

When I sync from Integrator, I am only syncing wires, into a
skeleton that was created by syncing from the Integrator plane.

Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong?

Thank you!

How to convert Eagle files to DxDesigner?

Hello all,

I am trying to convert some Eagle files( .brd and .sch ) to DxDesigner? I want to modify these files in Mentor Graphics.

Is there a method to do this or is it even possible?

I was looking online and I saw that some people first converted Eagle to Altium and then to DxDesigner<- not sure if this works tho.

I will appreciate any help.

Hi Marissa, I've moved your question to the PADS > Schematic Design sub-community where it should receive a quicker answer. Good luck to you!

With the latest version of PADS (VX.1) xDX designer has an Eagle schematic importer.  It's as easy as file import Eagle, run the translator once to generate the properties to convert and then run the translator again with the correct property mappings.

Eagle files from version 6.5+ are supported

Check out this script posted by David Ricketts several months ago in the PADS > Schematic design community. Thanks Dave!

Using the latest release on PADS VX.1, this file can be imported into xDX Designer Schematic for PADS.  Check out File Import Eagle

Examples or Tutorials of DxDesigner or Expedition PCB?

Hello,

I am trying to learn Mentor Graphics DxDesigner to make schematics and layouts but I can't seem to find any good tutorials online.

Are there any examples or tutorials that the community recommends or a book/pdf? I am fairly new to Mentor Graphics.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the response, before I ask more in detail, does DxDesigner fall under PADS?

Right now I just have installed Mentor Graphics Dx/Exp EE7.9.3. I don't see any other relation to PADS. Will I have to install this brand new software PADS VX.1?

My mistake Marissa! Because you were talking about Eagle, I assumed you were interested in PADS. I will move your post to the Xpedition > Design Creation community. You do not need to use PADS.

Thanks for the info. I don't have VX.1, but I think someone I know may. I will have to ask him. Thanks again.

Hi John,

Do you have any 'refined' connectors in the design? For example, any inline Signal Maps where you have mapped two exclusive wires to the same cavity? I have recently seen a similar issue where the refined connectors couldn't be synced to XC because of the change policy.

If this might be the issue, it is probably best to contact your local support who should be able to investigate further.

Hi,

I have the VX.1 and seems that I can not find how to import schematics from Altium.

Can you please advise how to do it, may be my license not covering it ?

In my former job I have done a lot of projects with Altium and would like to keep them, same with libraries. Is there any way to import schematics, pcbs, and libraries. I think that in the VX.0 it was possible but I installed the newer version and it is gone :-(

Thank you in advance

Ioannis
