Dave,
Following up from the conversation we just had through email, so that everyone on this forum can also see what resources are available.
There are several 3D related videos on PADS.com.
If you use the following filter, you will see most of the 3D videos displayed on that page:
Then regarding the availability of 3D components models...
If you don’t access to an MCAD tool or department then there are various sites that provide free models, created by users mostly, so take them as they come.
Here’s some examples:
http://www.3dcontentcentral.com/default.aspx
https://grabcad.com/library/software/step-slash-iges
http://www.pcb-3d.com/3d-step-models-by-categories - Some free, some pay for
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/generalDisplay.html?id=3D-CAD
http://www.traceparts.com/use-and-manage-3d-cad-models/traceparts-enterprise/ - I Searched on IC:
Traceparts have an Electronic part classification but the link is broke, but you can look at the individual sub-categories.
http://store.payloadz.com/results/results.aspx?keywords=ipc-7351 - A pay for site
Many manufacturers also provide STEP models of their components now as well. That’s hit & miss/trial & error though. You just have to go trawl through their web sites.
For example- 3M, Samtec, and Tyco have models for many of their connectors.
3M: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Interconnect/Home/Resources/3DModels/
Here’s some specific connector, 3D CAD models are listed half way down the page:
Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Steve
